At least 16 people were killed when a bus in which they were travelling rolled down a gorge in Nainital, police said Monday.
The incident took place near Kaladungi town Sunday evening. Around 50 people were in the ill-fated bus, which was returning from a marriage held in Barapatthar area.
The driver lost control of the bus while negotiating a turn and the bus skidded off the road and fell down in the gorge after breaking the divider.
At least 13 people died on the spot while three died in hospital. The injured were rescued to safety by the police with the help of residents.
The bus belonged to the marriage party of Azeem, resident of Merasaray in Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh. The bride and the groom were safe as they were travelling in a car behind the bus, an official said.
