Three accidents took a toll of 19 lives in Punjab and Haryana in the past 24 hours, according to reports from the police in the two states.
Nine people, among them four women and two children, were killed in Punjab when the Tata mini-van in which they were travelling from Kotkapura to Patiala collided Sunday morning with a truck in Barnala district, 200 km from Chandigarh.
The victims were on their way to a shrine in Patiala town. Six people sustained injuries in the accident.
In another accident in Punjab Saturday, five people, including a woman and a child, were killed when their car collided with a truck near Nawanshahr town, 75 km from here.
In neighbouring Haryana, five people were killed Sunday when a private luxury bus rammed into the wall on the edge of a flyover and toppled over, in Karnal town, 130 km from here.
Police said one of the victims in the accident was related to a union minister.
