A total of 2,855 violations of the model code of conduct by various parties have been reported in Delhi, with the Bharatiya Janata Party leading the list with 156, the state poll panel chief said Thursday.

Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Dev said Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party follows with 81 cases of violating the code of conduct - a set of guidelines laid down by the poll panel for political parties and candidates in the run-up to an election.

"The infringements include defacement of property, distribution of money in the constituencies and flow of liquor to influence the voters," he said, adding action has been initiated in 2,373 cases.

The elections for Delhi's 70 constituencies are scheduled for Dec 4, and the model code of conduct came into effect Oct 5 when the election schedule was announced.

A total of 896 cases of illegal flow of liquor were registered by the excise department, said Dev.

"We are working in coordination with the Delhi Police to maintain the tranquility in all constituencies," he said.

"Various queries from the political parties are being discussed regularly regarding the code, so as to avoid any violation," he added.

"All parties need to cooperate and understand that there will be no compromise, if any guideline is violated further," he added.
