Twenty prisoners on death row and serving life sentences have been relocated from the central jail in Pakistan's port city Karachi to a prison in Sukkur, after paramilitary troops recovered a cell phone used in plotting a bomb attack on a judge, a media report said.
A search-and-clean-up operation was conducted Saturday in the city's maximum security penal facility, Geo News reported.
"The convicts have been moved to Sukkur jail owing to security concerns, which Saturday's crackdown in the jail laid bare," officials said.
Officials said there were some terrorists belonging to outlawed outfits among those transferred from the prison.
Earlier, a big contingent of the Rangers paramilitary force helped by police conducted a search operation in the jail.
During the search, the paramilitary troopers recovered a cell phone, which they said was used in plotting a bomb attack on Sindh High Court Judge Maqbool Baqar.

A large number of arms, mobile phones, laptops and drugs were also confiscated during the search.
Jail authorities were not allowed to take part in the operation.
