At least 24 militants were killed and 36 injured as Afghan forces targeted Taliban positions in Balkh province on Thursday, said an army spokesman.
"The government forces from ground and air began attacking Taliban hideouts and positions at 1.30 a.m. on Thursday," Xinhua news reported quoted the spokesman as saying.
Taliban militants launched their so-called spring offensive on Wednesday and since then they have been engaged with the government forces in parts of the country.
