At least three people were killed and 14 others were injured on Wednesday in a suicide car bomb attack in Baghdad, an interior ministry source said.
A suicide bomber detonated his explosive-laden car at a crowded checkpoint in Baghdad's northeastern entrance in Hussainiyah neighbourhood, Xinhua news agency quoted the source as saying.
The blast set fire to several nearby vehicles and damaged many others, besides destroying part of the checkpoint's building, the source added.
Iraq has been hit by a new wave of violence since the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group took control of parts of Iraq's northern and western regions in June 2014.
A report by UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) estimated that 662 Iraqis were killed and 1,457 others were injured in acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflict in June across Iraq.
