Some 35 young racers will take part in the JK Tyre-Meco Motorsports Rotax Max Kart Open 2013 scheduled to be held over the weekend at the Lahari Resorts Kart Centre here.
Presented by JK Tyre in association with MECO Motorsports, the event comprising of two rounds will be held on May 4-5. Known as the JK Tyre-MMS Rotax Rookie Cup till last year, this will be the fourth edition of the event which has become a stepping stone for talented drivers to get into the JK Tyre-Rotax Max National Karting Championship, the winners of which will represent India in the Rotax Max World Finals held every year.
The participants will be divided into three classes on the basis of their age - Micro Max (7-12 years old), Junior Max (13 -16) and Senior Max (16 and above). Also in the fray are established teams such as Meco Racing, Rayo Racing and Mohites Racing.
The weekend will begin with qualifying races followed by five races in each class of Round 1, Saturday, followed by Qualifying and five races in each class of Round 2, Sunday.
Akbar Ebrahim, President, Meco Motorsports, said: "The JK Tyre-MMS Rotax Max Kart Open or the Rookie Cup as it was known till last year, is a precursor to the National Karting Championship and a platform where future champions are seen first.
"For racers interested in pursuing motorsport, this is the first exposure to competitive racing, which not only gives them the real experience, but also the much needed confidence at higher levels.
"As mentioned, we have seen many future champions rising from this event and we are certain that this year will not be any different."
