At least 42 labourers got injured in a lightning strike while working in a tea garden in West Bengal's Alipurduar district on Monday afternoon, police said.
"As many as 42 workers got injured while working in Alipurduar's Palashbari tea garden as a lightning bolt hit a nearby bush. The workers, most of them women, have sustained burn injuries in the incident," said an officer from Alipurduar police control.
The lightning strike happened at around 4 p.m. when nearly 50 workers were in the tea garden.
"The injured labourers were taken to the nearby Banarhat hospital and 10 of them were released after first aid. Around six people are in a critical condition. Most of them are in a state of shock," police added.
