As many as 51,552 people thronged the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) here to watch India beat Bangladesh in the cricket World Cup quarter-final on Thursday.

"Official crowd is 51,552 for #INDvBAN at the @MCG," tweeted the Cricket Australia (CA) website.

India convincingly beat Bangladesh by 109 runs to enter the semi-finals of the World Cup.

Thousands of Indians and Bangladesh fans turned up with faces painted in national colours cheering and chanting for their respective sides at the MCG.

Among the most passionate of India's dedicated supporters was Sudhir Kumar Chaudhary who fervently waved the flag for his team at every opportunity, making a strong case to be dubbed cricket's biggest fan.

The 31-year-old travels the world to get to the games, after carefully painting his body the night before each game. Then he spends the day blowing a conch, waving his flag and chanting without pause.
