55 dead as hailstorms lash south China

A total of 50 people have died while 14 reported missing due to latest rain and hailstorms that have hit south China, the government statistics said Friday.

The worst-hit Guangdong province reported 36 deaths and 10 missing people, reported Xinhua citing authorities related to disaster reduction.

In the evening, the National Committee for Disaster Reduction and the Ministry of Civil Affairs initiated emergency response for storms and flooding in Hunan province that have affected 1.59 million people and claimed three lives.

At least 10 provincial localities in south China have been affected by the fresh round of storms and flooding that began Tuesday, comprising Anhui, Chongqing, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi and Sichuan.
