Fifty-seven Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were Wednesday awarded Police Medal for gallantry at a function organised at the Kadarpur Academy here.
CRPF chief Dilip Trivedi gave away the medals, including 17 posthumously.
Valour Day is celebrated to remember the act of a small CRPF contingent, which when pitted against an infantry brigade of the Pakistani Army, trying to overrun Sardar Post in the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat April 9, 1965, not only defeated them but also killed 34 soldiers and captured four of them.
On the occasion, passing out parade of 44(B) batch of Directly Appointed Gazetted Officers was also held.
