The Haryana Police on Wednesday failed to make any arrest a day after a Muslim man was dragged out of a mosque and assaulted, allegedly by activists of the right-wing Bajrang Dal, in the state.

Tension prevailed in the locality in Hisar, 240 km from here, where the attack took place and security has been tightened in the area.

The victim, who had reportedly come from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, was slapped and beaten on Tuesday evening and the entire incident was recorded on camera.

The attackers were allegedly members of the Bajrang Dal and were taking out a march in Hisar to protest the terrorist attack on Amarnath Yatra pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir, when they got hold of the victim.

The victim said the activists wanted him to shout "Bharat Mata ki Jai". He said he pleaded with his assaulters to spare him but his pleas went unheard. He demanded that the attackers be arrested immediately.

However, Bajrang Dal local leader Kapil Vats denied involvement of any of his men in the attack.

"No one from the Bajrang Dal manhandled anyone. Our protest was against the terrorist attack. What happened later, we don't know," Vats claimed.

Muslim Kalyan Committee head in Hisar Harphool Khan on Wednesday said: "The police have not taken any action so far. The accused must be arrested and security should be provided near the mosque."

While a police official said they have not received any complaint in the incident, sources confirmed having received a complaint from a person called Abid.

Haryana has a Bharatiya Janata Party government since October 2014.
