Days after the families of the 40 abducted Indians in Iraq met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, the government Monday sent two senior external affairs ministry officials to Erbil in Iraq.
Sanjay Rana, deputy envoy in Maldives and Abu Mathen George, second secretary in Cairo, were sent to Erbil to strengthen the staff presence in the Indian camp in the Iraqi city, said official sources.
The 40 Indians were working on construction projects near the Iraqi city of Mosul when they were abducted by the militants in June. The families who met Sushma Swaraj earlier this month had urged that some senior officials should be deployed to augment the Indian presence there.
