Madhya Pradesh legislator K.K. Shrivastava, who was absconding for a year, was arrested on Friday, police said.
Shrivastava, a Bharatiya Janata Party lawmaker, allegedly thrashed a government official and prevented him from performing his duty.
Sources said he himself surrendered to the police.
According to police, Shrivastava, along with four of his friends, beat up chief executive officer of Rithi janpad panchayat Udayraj on August 20, 2014 and later kidnapped him from his office.
"He was arrested on Friday. The vehicle used in the kidnapping was also seized," Nimish Agrawal, superintendent of police, told IANS.
