Two All India Students Association (AISA) activists were allegedly attacked by members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the AISA said on Saturday.

According to AISA members, their activists Sudhanshu and Aman were attacked by ABVP's Chhattarpal Yadav, former Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) Joint Secretary, and some others in Motilal Nehru College, where the two had gone to meet their party associates on Friday.

An FIR has been lodged in the South Campus Police Station.

The two parties got into an argument in the college premises and the ABVP members reportedly tried to lock the two in a room.

They attacked them twice -- once in Motilal Nehru College and then in Aryabhatta College the same day, an AISA statement said.

Sudhanshu said he would "not back down and seek justice in this case and fight for a violence-free campus".

DU AISA President Kawalpreet Kaur said it was very shameful that instances of violence on the campus were rising day by day.

"Police are not at all serious about it. In the last one year, numerous instances of ABVP's violence against teachers and students have been reported. Many others do not report out of fear of reprisals," she said.

"ABVP considers itself above the law because of the impunity allowed to them by police and the government," she added.

Kaur stressed that there was a concerted attempt to terrorise the entire student community through these violent attacks.

"We demand strictest action against those involved in the attacks and that police should ensure that law and order is maintained on the campus," she said.
