Deaths of cows due to alleged negligence at a cow shelter in Rajasthan was raised in the Rajya Sabha on Monday by Congress MP Pramod Tiwari, who urged the Centre to act against the state government.

Raising the issue during the Zero Hour, Tiwari claimed 1,000 cows have died.

"As many as 1,000 cows have been killed. On one hand, the government is saying there will be action against fake cow vigilantes, why are they not taking action against the Rajasthan government which has killed a thousand cows," Tiwari said while raising the issue.

"...it is planned murder of cows," he said.

According to reports, more than 500 cows died at Hingonia cow shelter near Jaipur in two weeks after more than 250 contractual workers went on a strike last month.

According to reports several cows starved to death.
