The government on Thursday said national passenger carrier Air India will be inducting Airbus A320 aircraft into its fleet.

According to Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha, Air India's board has approved the A320 induction in two phases of 19 and 15 units, respectively.

"Out of 19 units, five have already arrived and for remaining 14 aircraft, agreement has been signed with M/s ALAFCO," Sinha said in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha during Question Hour.

"Out of next 15 units, for eight aircraft LOI (letter of intent) has been signed with the two lessors and the final agreement is in process."

The minister further said that induction of the remaining seven units is under process.

"Air India is also inducting on dry lease A320 narrow body aircraft as part of its fleet replacement and expansion plans for the narrow body fleet," Sinha added.
