Ajax Amsterdam have signed AZ Alkmaar defender Nick Viergever on a four-year contract until July 1, 2018.
The 24-year-old is a product of Sparta Rotterdam youth academy and made his debut for the first team May 10, 2009, reports Xinhua.
The left-footed defender has spent the last four seasons playing at AZ, where he won the Dutch Cup in 2013. His contract at AZ ran out in 2015.
Two years ago also Ajax had shown interest in signing Viergever.
This year, PSV also wanted to sign the one-time Dutch international, who played for the Dutch national team in August 2012 against Belgium (2-4 loss), but Viergever preferred a move to Amsterdam.
"We wanted to have him and we're happy that it worked out," said Ajax director of football affairs Marc Overmars in a press release Saturday.
"Nick is at a good age and has played over 200 matches of professional football. He's playable centrally on defence and also as a left back and at midfield. All in all, a reliable player who can be used in several positions at Ajax."
