Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav Wednesday demanded extra central aid to states facing Maoist challenge.

Speaking at the chief ministers meeting on internal security, Yadav said the need of the hour was not only to tackle Naxalism but also to ensure that innocents were not harrased.

He called for comprehensive development of areas effected by Maoist violence.

The chief minister asked the central government to give additional financial aid and development package to areas hit by Maoist violence.

Thanking Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for convening the meeting, he demanded that central forces be stationed in the state itself.

He said the state government was soon going to recruit 55,000 policemen at different levels.
