Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday reviewed the progress of the Lucknow Metro Rail project and sought the use of latest technology in it.

He directed officials to ensure that every Metro station should compulsorily have a cycle stand for the convenience of the poor and to encourage people to be conscious of the environment.

Yadav said the stations should be constructed in such a way that people should get a peek into all the specialties of the city.

The chief minister took stock of the progress made so far with Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation principal advisor E. Sreedharan and managing director Kumar Keshav.

Expressing satisfaction at the progress made so far, Yadav instructed officials to complete the remaining work in record time.

The chief minister said there was no paucity of funds for the project and his government was working on the project on a war-footing through its own limited resources so that construction work faces no difficulty.

Yadav referred to other world class projects underway in the state, saying that once completed, they would change the perception of investors about Uttar Pradesh.

This, he said, would immensely benefit the young, farmers and people living in far flung areas.

Sreedharan apprised the chief minister that work was underway on the Metro project expeditiously and all efforts would be made to complete it before the fixed timeline.

To provide rapid, cheap and world class transport, the state government has set a target of December 31, 2016 for completion of the first phase of the north-south corridor of the Metro project between Chaudhary Charan Singh airport and Charbagh railway station.
