Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday met Governor Ram Naik amid the bitter political feuding in the state's ruling Samajwadi Party.
While what transpired at the meeting is not yet known, the visit was being described as a courtesy call.
The meeting comes hours after the Samajwadi Party on Wednesday expelled Minister of State for Forests Pawan Pandey for slapping a close aide of party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav.
The announcement of the disciplinary action was made by state party chief Shivpal Singh Yadav, who is locked in a power tussle with his nephew, the Chief Minister.
Pandey is known to be close to Akhilesh.
