With growing cases of dengue and several deaths being reported from many parts of the state, including state capital Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Friday warned officials against any laxity.

In a missive issued to all district magistrates and health department officials, Yadav said they should ensure that emergency services at government hospitals were in good condition and that availability of life saving medicines was ensured round the clock.

He also said that cent per cent attendance of doctors posted in emergency services should be ensured. Yadav also directed all district magistrates to conduct surprise inspections of emergency services at government hospitals and initiate prompt and effective measures to control the disease of dengue.

He stated that the chief medical officers (CMOs) should also make an action plan for dengue control and get it approved by the district magistrates and ensure follow up action as well.

Stressing on the need of an effective and informative awareness campaign about dengue, the Chief Minister asked all district magistrates to roll out such campaigns in their respective districts.

More than 2,000 cases of dengue have been reported in the last one week and more than a dozen are reported to have died due to the vector disease. Opposition has been slamming the state government for not doing enough to prevent the disease and of doing even little post-infection, in terms of availability of staff, necessary medicines and platelets.
