Al Qaeda-inspired militant group Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis has claimed responsibility for twin suicide bombings that killed three people and wounded eight others Friday in the southern Sinai peninsula in Egypt.

In a statement posted on the group's website, the militant group warned the Egyptian army that they would continue their attacks, Xinhua reported.

The group also urged the Egyptian people to "rebel against this oppressive and tyrannical regime" and not only resort to peaceful opposition movements.

Two suicide attacks hit the southern Sinai peninsula Friday. In the first attack, a suicide bomber blew himself up in front of a bus carrying workers, killing one and wounding three. Another suicide bomber attacked an army checkpoint, killing a soldier and a civilian passer-by and wounding five others.
