Alakhpura FC defeated table toppers Rising Student FC 1-0 to grab pole position, while Eastern Sporting Union bagged their second win of the inaugural edition of the Indian Women's League (IWL) football tournament here on Thursday.
Deepika's 28th minute strike proved to be the difference between the two sides in a match where Alakhpura relied on their strong defence to earn a favourable result against Rising Student.
With seven points out of three matches, Alakhpura are now top of the table of the IWL which is being played at the Ambedkar Stadium.
In another match of the day, star-studded Eastern Sporting Union bagged their second win as the O. Bembem Devi-captained side defeated FC Pune City 3-1 to go second in the league table with six points.
A Kamala Devi brace (36th and 42nd minutes) and Kashmina's late strike (70th) proved enough for ESU to steam past their opponents after Alisha Ranikhetwala had pulled a goal back in the 65th minute.
