An alert, courageous Delhi Police constable averted an attempt by three hired gunmen to kill a businessman here by grappling with and restraining one of the assailants, police said Tuesday.
Ashok Garg, who deals in iron business, was attacked outside his office at west Delhi's Hari Nagar area by three men around 8.30 a.m. Tuesday.
"The attackers opened fire thrice at Garg but he escaped miraculously," a police officer told IANS.
"Constable Munna Ram, who was going towards his office, heard the firing and managed to nab one of the assailants, identified later as Chandan, 24. A home made pistol was also recovered from Chandan's possession," the officer said.
Other bystanders also swung into action and caught the other two attackers - Harpreet, 26, and Gurmeet, 19, and handed them over to police.
Police said the attacker had come to kill Garg after accepting a contract of Rs. 50,000. The interrogations were on to ascertain the person who gave contract to them.
