Authorities in various districts in Haryana along the Yamuna river on Wednesday sounded a flood alert following heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of the river in the past two days.
Officials of Haryana's Irrigation Department said that the water level in Yamuna at the Hathinikund barrage had crossed the danger-level mark of 90,000 cusecs.
It reached 1.18 lakh cusecs at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, one official said.
The water level in the river went up suddenly due to heavy rainfall in adjoining hill state of Uttarakhand, from where Yamuna river emerges, in the past 24 to 48 hours.
The Yamunanagar district administration on Wednesday issued a flood warning in low-lying areas of the district along the river.
An alert has been sounded in downstream districts of Karnal and Panipat also.
