Alstom Transport India Limited Managing Director Bharat Salhotra was conferred the insignia of Chevalier de l'Ordre national du Merite (Knight in the National Order of Merit) by French Ambassador Alexandre Ziegler here on Thursday.
Salhotra was appointed Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Merite by the French President in 2015 for his achievements in the field of business and his commitment to Indo-French relations, the Ambassador said during the ceremony.
The MD said that to be recommended for the French national award was a matter of great prestige for him.
"When my rendezvous with Alstom started four years ago, we were just 300 people with two projects in hand," he said, adding that in terms of number of employees, the company grew ten times in the last four years to 3,000.
"We succeeded because we didn't go after winning contracts but towards making impact on lives of people and contribute towards building the nation," he said
France-based Alstom develops and markets systems, equipment and services for the transport sector including high-speed trains, metros, tramways and e-buses.
