Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Wednesday met Congress President Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi to discuss the re-organization of the Punjab unit of the party ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Sunil Jakhar and AICC in-charge of Punjab affairs, Asha Kumari, a Congress spokesperson said in Chandigarh.
"The discussion centered around revamping of the PPCC organisational structure in order to strengthen the Punjab unit of the party and prepare it better for next year's parliamentary elections," the spokesperson said.
Amarinder Singh and Gandhi also discussed the possibility of holding the All India Congress Committee (AICC) plenary session, likely to be held in March-April this year, in Punjab.
Apart from Delhi, Punjab is being considered as a possible venue for the session, said the spokesperson. A final decision has yet to be taken on this by the Congress high command.
The Congress wrested power in Punjab in March last year following assembly elections. The party won 77 seats in the 117-member assembly.
