The 124th birth anniversary of Babasaheb B.R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian constitution, was celebrated on Tuesday with great enthusiasm at his birth place Mhow in Madhya Pradesh.
'Ambedkar Mahakumbh'-- an annual cultural mega event -- was organised on the occasion.
At Bhopal and other towns in the state, statues of Ambedkar were decorated with garlands and homage was paid to the Dalit leader.
Cultural programmes were also organised at various places to celebrate the occasion.
Followers of Ambedkar shouted slogans of 'Jai Bhim' at the Ambedkar Memorial in Mhow. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and other political leaders were also present to pay their tributes to Ambedkar.
Addressing the 'Ambedkar Mahakumbh', the chief minister said the ideology and principles propagated by Ambedkar must be followed in practice to build a better society.
Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav said Ambedkar worked for the welfare and rights of all sections of society. He appealed to all to follow the principles of Ambedkar to consolidate peace and harmony in the country.
