Third seed Shivani Amineni drubbed fellow Indian Kaavya Sawhney to enter the quarter-final of the girls singles Under-18 category in the ITF Juniors tennis championships here on Wednesday.
Amineni took about one hour and 35 minutes to outclass unseeded Sawhney 6-4, 7-5 at the red clay courts of the Dakshin Kalikata Sansad.
She will face Shrivalli Bhamidipaty, another unseeded Indian in the quarter-finals on Thursday.
Top seed in boys singles under 18, Yassir Kilani from Morocco proved to be too powerful and consistent for Belgium's Gauthier Onclin as the former won by 6-3, 7-5 in about one hour and 15 minutes. Kilani will meet Pengyu Lu of China, tomorrow in the quarter-finals.
Local girl Yubarani Banerjee went down fighting against Jade Bornay of France, who had created the major upset in round one by drubbing top seeded Nirundorn. Bornay pocketed the first set by a close 7-5, which witnessed a series of service breaks.
In the second, it looked more like a one-sided battle as Bornay took five straight games from been 0-1 down. Bornay won the match by 7-5, 6-2.
