Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah on Tuesday welcomed the historic peace agreement between the government and the NSCN-Isak-Muivah and congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the successful resolution of the six-decade-old Naga political problem.
"The successful reconciliation of the Naga problem is an another major achievement of the NDA government. The success is a milestone towards realizing the dream of Modi's 'Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat'," he said in a statement.
Shah said that the permanent solution to the Naga problem would not only end the long-running insurgency issue and the violence in the northeast region but will establish peace, which will create an environment of the investment and development there and pave the way for prosperity.
The central government and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah NSCN-Isak-Muivah on Monday signed a historic accord that promises to bring peace in the northeastern state.
Shah also said that this agreement would strengthen the security of the northeast and foil the "plan of the external powers to provoke regional sentiments through cross-border illegal activities".
