Amitav Ghosh to attend literary fest at Leicester

Indian author Amitav Ghosh, who currently lives in New York, is set to attend a literary festival at the University of Leicester in Britain this month, the varsity said in a press release Wednesday.

Ghosh, the multi-award-winning Indian novelist, will be speaking at the University of Leicester Nov 12, and again at the university's annual Literary Leicester Festival Nov 13.

He will join a panel of expert historians and literature specialists for a discussion on "History and Fiction" Nov 13.

Ghosh's novels are renowned internationally for compelling story-telling that brings the history of the Indian Ocean area alive through the use of deeply researched detail. He has won numerous awards since his first novel.

His "Sea of Poppies" (2008) was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize in 2008.

He has won the Arthur C. Clarke Award, the Crossword Book Prize and the India Plaza Golden Quill Award in 2009.

He now teaches comparative literature at the City University of New York.

Ghosh was born in Kolkata in 1956.
