Bus transport across Andhra Pradesh is likely to be affected as employees of state-owned Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) have decided to go on indefinite strike from Friday.
Leaders of APSRTC Employees Union and APSRTC Telangana Mazdoor Union announced the strike Thursday night after their talks with the management failed.
The strike may bring 20,000 buses to a halt across the state, official said. Leaders of the two unions said the management refused to give any assurance to meet their demands for a hike in the salaries with effect from April 1 this year and for regularization of contract employees.
They said it was for the government to prevent the strike by meeting their demands.
Earlier, Transport Minister Botsa Satyanarayana hoped that there would be no strike in APSRTC. He said in case of strike, the authorities would make alternate arrangements.
