Senior BSP leader and a former minister Indrajeet Saroj quit the party along with more than 200 supporters on Wednesday.
His exit is being seen as another setback to the beleaguered party chief Mayawati as in the past few months, many senior leaders of the party have quit.
The Bahujan Samaj Party maintained that he was being thrown out for anti-party activities. Saroj however accused Mayawati of seeking Rs 15 lakh from him and acting against him when he refused. He also said that she had lost her mental balance.
The list of leaders deserting the four time UP chief minister is growing by every passing day. R.K. Chowdhary, Jaiveer Singh, Jang Bahadur Patel, Ram Lakhan Verma, Barkhu Ram Verma, Swami Prasad Maurya, Brajesh Pathak, Shri Ram Yadav, Captain Sikander Rizvi, Deenanath Bhaskar, Raj Bahadur, Naseemuddin Siddiqui, and many other party veterans have left the BSP recently.
While some went their own many, many have joined the BJP and two of them - Swami Prasad Maurya and Pathak are cabinet ministers in the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh.
The party on Wednesday also booted out its former legislator Radhe Lal Rawat.--IANS
