Malaysia's anti-corruption body on Saturday recorded Prime Minister Najib Razak's statement over an issue related to nearly $700 million in his personal accounts.

The prime minister was cooperative during the two-and-a-half hour questioning, Xinhua cited the Malaysian Anti-corruption Commission as saying in a statement.

Najib was under pressure following reports by The Wall Street Journal earlier this year that some $700 million were transferred into his personal accounts via controversial state investment fund 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

Najib had denied any wrongdoing.

His deputy Ahmad Zahid Hamid told parliament this week that the fund was legal political donation.
