Defence Minister A.K. Antony Thursday commended the commitment of the troops deployed at the China-Indian border in enhancing mutual trust and deepening the understanding between the two countries.
Antony, who arrived on a two-day visit to the city during the day, appreciated the efforts put in by the Eastern Command in maintaining constant vigil, peace and tranquility along the border, according to a defence ministry release.
Eastern Army Commander, Lt. Gen M.M.S. Rai briefed the minister on the operational preparedness, security situation in the northeast and improvement in the living condition of troops deployed in the forward locations in high altitude areas.
Lt. Gen Rai also briefed him on maintenance of peace and tranquility with China as per the Border Peace and Tranquility Agreement (BPTA) and the recently concluded Border Defence Cooperation Agreement (BDCA).
"Expressing satisfaction at the high level of motivation and morale of troops deployed in difficult and physically demanding conditions, Antony commended the commitment of the forward deployed troops in enhancing mutual trust and deepening the understanding between India and China as per the cited agreements," the release said.
