Arab foreign ministers kicked off an extraordinary meeting Saturday at the Arab League's headquarters here over recent developments of the Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations.

The meeting is being attended by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who had an earlier meeting Saturday with Egyptian interim President Adly Mansour, Xinhua reported.

The Palestinian-Israeli conflict dates back to 1948 when Israel, a Jewish nation, was established as a sovereign state in the Middle East. The Arab world fought with Israel a few wars in which the latter annexed many lands belonging to the Palestinians.

Peace talks between the two sides have been repeatedly hampered by Israel's settlement expansions on the occupied lands, which the Palestinians aspire as the capital city of their future independent state.
