Ecuadoran football club Sport Emelec Wednesday presented Argentine footballer Mauro Fernandez as its new forward.
Emelec, Ecuador's reigning national champion and current leader of the national championship season, unveiled their newest member, who will be playing in the regional America Cup tournament, at a press conference here, reports Xinhua.
Emelec director Jose Lasso wished Fernandez luck, warned him of the team's demanding fan base, and said the club was looking to win the regional cup.
"Our fans are very loyal, but also very demanding. Emelec is aiming for more than a national championship," said Lasso, adding he was confident Fernandez will help the team attain their goal.
Fernandez, wearing the club jersey, said he was pleased to be joining "a major Ecuadoran team" and to "have the chance to compete for the (national) title and play in the America Cup."
His career includes playing for Argentina's Guillermo Brown, starting in 2008, and Estudiantes de La Plata, until 2013.
Emelec leads the national championship with 41 points.
