Army chief General Dalbir Singh on Wednesday visited the Northern Command headquarters at Udhampur as well as the forward areas of White Knight Corps.
"General Dalbir Singh interacted with the troops and addressed officers of the Northern Command during his farewell visit. He was accorded a warm farewell by the officers and men during his visit to all the locations," a defence statement said here.
General Dalbir Singh and Indian Air Force chief, Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha, are set to retire on December 31.
General Dalbir Singh complimented soldiers of the Northern Command for their professionalism, selfless commitment and dedication to the nation.
The Army chief appreciated their role during the Kashmir unrest, ceasefire violations on the India-Pakistan international border and Line of Control and in counter-terror operations.
He exhorted the troops to continue to work with zeal and dedication to overcome numerous challenges.

The Army chief commended the synergy between all security agencies and civil administration in Jammu and Kashmir.
Lieutenant General Bipin Rawat will take over as the next Army chief after the retirement of General Dalbir Singh.
