Promoting investment opportunities in Assam, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday invited External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to be the chief guest of the closing ceremony of Advantage Assam, the first ever global investors summit in the Northeast.

"Held a meeting with External Affairs Minister Smt. @SushmaSwaraj ji in New Delhi and discussed a range of issues related to #ActEast policy," Sonowal tweeted late on Wednesday night.

"Invited Smt. @SushmaSwaraj ji to Global Investors' Summit 2018 as chief guest of the closing ceremony," he said.

Organised by industry body Ficci along with the state government, Advantage Assam will be held in Guwahati on February 3-4, 2018.

In a curtain-raiser conference here on Tuesday ahead of the summit, Sonowal, while wooing investors, said that "we will have to go hand-in-hand".

"Please come to Assam with an open mind. We are ready to extend full cooperation to you", he said.

The Advantage Assam investors summit will focus on eight major sectors: pharmaceuticals and medical equipment; plastics and petrochemicals; power; river transport and port townships; IT and IT-enabled services; handloom, textiles and handicrafts; tourism, hospitality and wellness; and agri-horticulture, food processing, organic cultivation and bamboo.

The summit is being organised keeping in view the fact that the Northeast is the centre of India's engagement with southeast Asia under New Delhi's Act East Policy.
