A Deputy Superintendent (DSP) of Assam Police was arrested on Saturday for making an objectionable comment on social media against a woman legislator of the ruling BJP, police said.
The CID arrested DSP Anjan Bora based following departmental and criminal proceedings against him. The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had also lodged an FIR against him.
Bora, an Assam Police Service officer, had a few days back posted on Facebook that one of BJP's woman legislators had been running a prostitution racket from her office chamber in the Assam Secretariat in Dispur. Although Bora did not name anyone, in his post, he made it clear to who he is referring to.
He was produced in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Kamrup on Saturday, who released him on bail.
Assam Director General of Police Mukesh Sahay said that law will take its own course. "Whenever someone violates the service rules, law will take its course," he said adding that there will be departmental action against him.
Bora, however, stood by his charges and claimed that he has got enough evidence to prove them.
