No cash, no queues in Noida ATMs

The ATMs of SBI, PNB, IndusInd Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank had their shutters down

ATMs in this industrial town adjacent to the national capital wore a desolate look on Sunday -- the 26th day since the demonetisation of high-value currency notes -- with no one standing in queue to withdraw money as each one of the outlets displayed a 'no cash available' sign outside.

A correspondent visited five Automated Teller Machine (ATM) outlets around Sector 16 Metro Station at 11.30 am and found each one unable to dispense any cash.

"This machine does not have any cash... hasn't had any since the (high-value) notes were banned," a guard at the Punjab National Bank (PNB) branch said.

The situation was the same at the Kotak Mahindra Bank branch ATM, which has apparently fallen out of the reckoning from among those which can be of use during the cash crunch -- since November 8, it has been devoid of any money.

The ATMs of State Bank of India (SBI) and IndusInd Bank also had their shutters down.

Since the demonetisation decision, announced on November 8, people have had to stand in line in front of branches of banks and post offices and at ATMs to withdraw cash -- which has been in short supply for more than three weeks.
