Hundreds of auto drivers under the banner of Swaraj India on Monday protested at Delhi Secretariat against the auto permit and finance "scams".
Auto drivers along with their autorickshaws moved from ITO to Delhi Secretariat in central Delhi at around 10 a.m. and demonstrated outside gate number-6, demanding Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Transport Minister Satyendra Kumar Jain to address their problems.
The auto-drivers were demanding Kejriwal take strict action against senior officers of of Delhi Transport Department who had stopped thousands of permits and financiers for forcing them to purchase autorickshaw worth Rs 1.85 lakh for Rs 4.50 lakh each.
Extending his support to the auto drivers, Swaraj India national president Yogendra Yadav said he felt guilt since auto drivers had supported Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the Delhi elections but were "again on the road to protest".
"We recently exposed the permit scam running right under the nose of the Delhi government. An unholy nexus between the Delhi government and the financiers is resulting in poor drivers being forced to purchase autos worth Rs 1.85 lakh for Rs 4.50 lakh," he said.
Party spokesperson Anupam accused the AAP government of playing with trading of auto permits.
