The Ghaziabad police have arrested two auto thieves and one buyer of stolen vehicles and recovered 10 motorcycles from them.

City Superintendent of Police Muniraj said the Sihani Gate police arrested the thieves riding a stolen motorcyle from the T junction of the Raj Nagar Extension area after a tip-off.

They were identified as Irfan and Samay Singh, both of Saidpur village in Bulandshahr district. Confessing to thefts, the duo said they hired a room in Lal Kuan here for staying and running their operations.

The thieves used to come to the Raj Nagar District Centre (RDC) regularly and keep a watch on the vehicle owners who parked vehicles in the abandoned and unauthorised parking area.

One thief would follow the targeted vehicle owner after he parked his motorcyle. On assessing that the owner would not return soon, he would signal to his accomplice on mobile to steal the vehicle.

The two would then take the stolen vehicle to nearby towns of Meerut or Muzaffarnagar to emboss fake engine and chassis numbers and later sell it in the market.

The two confessed that besides those vehicles recovered from them, they stole over a dozen other from Ghaziabad alone. They targeted vehicles at the collectorate, judicial court, RDC and the Gandhi Nagar commercial hub of the old city.

The police also nabbed Prayag alias Guddu of Muzaffarnagar who bought the stolen motorcyles from the two thieves.

Another accomplice, Nizbul of Saidpur village, is untraceable and on the run. Attempts are being made to arrest him, added Muniraj.
