Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday alleged that PDP was blackmailed into forming a government in Jammu and Kashmir with the BJP and the current backlash was in reaction to the promotion of the RSS agenda in the state.

"RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) is trying promote its own agenda in Jammu and Kashmir. The backlash in the state is against this. They (BJP) should admit their mistake that they put pressure on the regional party (PDP) by saying that they will not relase central funds if they didn't form the government with BJP," said Azad, a former Chief Minister of the northern state.

"The government is trying to bring in their own philosophy in the state and not bring any change," he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held a high-level meeting over the violence in Jammu and Kashmir that has claimed over 30 lives, and appealed for calm even as curfew continued for the fourth consecutive day in the Valley.

The meeting took stock of the situation in the Kashmir valley that has seen repeated clashes between thousands of protesters and security forces following the killing of Hizbul Mujahiddin commander Burhan Wani last Friday.

"The manner in which police have let loose in Kashmir against children, old people and youth is is very dangerous. They should understand that Jammu and Kashmir is a senitive area, it is also religiously, politically and and geographicaaly sensitive," said Azad.
