To make learning math easy, a city school Wednesday set up an hands-on activity centre - Number Nagar - to teach its concepts and make it a rewarding experience for the young students.

"Phobia for math compels many to look for stop-gap solutions. Though parents send their wards for tuition to learn the subject, understanding its concepts remains unaddressed," Sri Vani School principal Sharada Prasad told reporters ahead of the Children's Day Thursday.

Developed by BrainStars, a city-based organisation dedicated to foster and nurture math, science and skills in school kids, Number Nagar bridges gaps in math concept through its '5Cs' approach - curiosity, clarity, competence, connectivity and communication - and makes learning the numbers subject a rich experience for the younger generation.

The centre has a multi-disciplinary approach and stresses on experimental learning of math concepts.

"Our aim is to bridge the gap between formal education and innovative education by exploring needs of modern science, math and skills education in schools, colleges, professional education, community literacy and state policies," BrainStars chief executive Ravi Shankar said on the occasion.

The math concepts taught by the centre compliment the syllabus prescribed by state and central education boards across the country.

"Our teachers were given an orientation programme at BrainStars and completed a four-day workshop to equip with the novel way of imparting math concepts to the students," Prasad added.
