India on Thursday conveyed its strong support to Bangladesh in its fight against extremism and terror.

The support was conveyed during a meeting Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar had with his Bangladeshi counterpart Md Shahidul Haque in Dhaka, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup told media persons in New Delhi.

Jaishankar is on a two-day visit to Bangladesh.

Swarup said the two officials discussed all bilateral issues and reviewed the progress on decisions and understandings reached during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bangladesh in June last year.

"Both sides appreciated that there has been excellent implementation of decisions taken, which are evident from the results in all sectors. Key developments include progress on the implementation of the land boundary agreement, commencement of supply of 100MW power from Palatana, Tripura, to eastern Bangladesh, progress on energy cooperation, signing of the dollar credit line agreement for execution of projects under the $2 billion line of credit," he said.

Swarup said the two officials also shared their perspective on region and international issues of mutual interests.

Both sides also took stock of decisions taken on security and border management.

Jaishankar also met Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Minister A.H. Mahmood Ali.

Bangladesh has been wracked by extremists violence since September last year in which secular bloggers, teachers and online activists have been murdered. The Islamic State and Al-Qaeda have reportedly been claiming responsibility for these murders.

Bangladesh has sought to refute these claims, saying the killers were "home-grown" extremists.

However, the US insists the assailants might have links with the international terror group.
