Bangladesh on Monday paid tribute to its founding father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his 41st death anniversary.

Popularly known as Bangabandhu, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was assassinated on August 14-15 night in 1975 at his house and most of his family members, including small children, were slaughtered by renegade army soldiers during a military coup in one of the bloodiest political assassinations in the world, bdnews24 reported.

The day was observed as the National Mourning Day in memory of the victims of the military coup.

Bangabandhu was President of Bangladesh in 1975, when he was assasinated.
