Bangladesh received a record $15.3 billion in remittances from its nationals working abroad in the last fiscal year, a central bank official said on Thursday.

Remittances for the year of 2014-15 recorded a 7.5 percent rise from the previous year, said Kazi Sayedur Rahman, general manager of Bangladesh Bank's foreign exchange, according to Xinhua news agency.

In the 2013-14 fiscal, Bangladesh received nearly $14.23 billion in remittance.

The World Bank said some $15 billion came as remittances to Bangladesh during the whole of 2014, making the country the eighth-largest remittance corridor.

With the recent reopening of the labour market in Saudi Arabia, experts say the remittance inflow in Bangladesh will rise even more in the coming days.
