A severe Nor'wester has left dozens of people dead, scores injured and a swathe of destruction in a number of Bangladesh districts late Thursday.

TV reports showed the storm left a trail of destruction uprooting hundreds of trees and flattened many tin and mud-built houses in at least 15 districts, Xinhua reported.

Bogra, Sirajganj, Pabna, Rajshahi, Natore districts in the northwestern Bangladesh reportedly accounted for the highest number of 18 deaths in the storm.

14 more people were killed due to the sudden storm in capital Dhaka and other parts of the country. Most victims died after being struck by lightning, sources said.

Scores of people have reportedly been injured due to the Nor'wester which was known as a type of storm in Bangladesh and adjacent portions of India where it occasionally occurs in the spring.

Bangladesh was affected by severe tornadoes and storms from March to mid-May ahead of the four-month-long wet monsoon season.
